It is like a new pair of shoes in that it has to be "broken in" before it is ready to use. This will be seen in the tightness of the spine when it is first opened, making it difficult to read the text near the inside margin. To loosen the binding so that the book opens more easily and lies flat, place the book on a table, and then, taking approximately fifty pages at a time, press down on the pages until it lies nearly flat against the table. After doing this through the entire book, you will find that it begins to open normally, making the entire text easy to see and read. This process can be repeated until the desired flexibility of the spine is reached.
